Steve Jobs was a very successful capitalist who made billions of dollars selling luxurious candies in fashionable wrappers to kids. In his free time he practiced Buddhism. In his professional life he helped lead the new frontier in high tech planned obsolescence. He was a major player in the creation of a culture of not really being where you are.
As he descends upon his new journey it is now our time to do the same.
To transcend trends and the lure of technological solutions and escapism. To see what it really is that he was helping us escape from. To think beyond the technological trip-out of the 21st century and to see into the origins of this matter and the eventual deposition of it. To zoom out on the bigger picture.
STEP 1
Look away from your screen and for the next two minutes stop, look, and listen to everything else around you. Notice the space. Your racing heart. Time in real time. What is there and not there? How it makes you feel? If you remove the screens in your life do you have anything left? Is life better with more screen time or just easier?
For most of us this is an impossible task to accomplish.
STEP 2
It's up to you...
So long Steve, and thanks for all the wrappers. We'll be thinking of you as we're sweeping them up in next century to come.
Rest in peace jobs , People will miss you.
ReplyDeletewithout Jobs, people can't work. this concerns me. so while steve-o ascends to the grand old iphone app in the Clouds© , the rest of us down here will be Jobless, skilless, and mindless. what a tragedy, right?
