This second time around we created an open invitation for the public to submit writings, pictures, and music in the theme of "Spring". We took the title, "Summer in the Light and Winter in the Shade" from a quotation by Charles Dickens as it neatly and very nicely captures the season.
As this is only our second issue we were continuing to experiment in both form and function. This time around we decided to flip our entire layout on its side--making it horizontal. We incorporated more visual elements, our first poem, as well as some helpful resources such as our "Seasonal Foods" calender.
Topics in this issue include "Cycles of Growth", Gardening, Seasonal Living and MUCH MORE!!
Accompanied Music Compilation PV003
This compilation features all new music contributors. With the exception of the Broads (CA) all artists come from the Pacific Northwest. We were exceptionally pleased with the variation we received along our "roots music" theme. The word "roots" in regards to music might invoke imagery of ancient indigenous cultures, western traditional music (ie - folk or blues), or perhaps a process of creating from one's local environment. Indeed this compilation captures all of these concepts and much more. Give it a listen and hear the magic.

Bittersweet in our first conception, revolutionary artist and cultural thinker Emory Douglas' poster "We Shall Survive Without A Doubt" just so happens to best represent the theme & times (Winter 2011) of Volume 1, Issue 1. Each article is in its own way a tale about the survival and continuity of all things.
As humans we tend to forget that there is always a calm after the storm. As we are faced with severity we often question our future and our past. We fear the unknown element of being forever changed. Always knowing that we can never return to what we once knew in comfort or discomfort alike.
At least until we are awoken to the sobering fact that life goes on and that the greatest stresses come from an anticipation of action and that action itself is often what makes life worth living in the first place. Doing and not doing. The cycle of growth = Live, Die, and Try Again.
Accompanied Music Compilation PV002
For this issue five songs were hand selected from live performances at a community gathering of Northern California & Pacific Northwest Artists forever known as "The Backyard Seed-in" which took place in Seattle, WA on 11 July 2010--the day of a solar eclipse.
